Chimera @ Artemide

CHIMERA was designed by Vico Magistretti back in 1966 for Artemide. This impressive fixture is still very much alive and has even survived an era in which plastic was seen as a cheap and disposable material. Some say this iconic lamp even helped to redefine the image of plastic. CHIMERA's sensual curves and glossy finish of the different waves can provide almost an exuberant quality. The structure is curved white opal methacrylate placed on a white painted metal base. The soft ambient light that leaks through the plastic fixture becomes a sculptural object. Magistretti shows the possibilities that arise when technical innovation is combined with formal purity.
