Light Circles @ Studio Wieki Somers

The  cycle of day and night simulated in an office.

For the new office of Robeco, Studio Wieki Somers has designed an installation that illuminates the building from east to west by three windows, named Light Circles. The system of Light Circles consists of twelve circles which are made of resin blocks. These circles represent the sun and the moon and show the time in an abstract way. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The circles show the cycle of the sun and moon. The circles light alternately up. At 7am the first circle of light in the east will light up, at 8am the next one. This cycle continues until 7pm with the last circle in the west. Once this cycle is over, the lunar cycle starts in opposite direction back to the east again, where at 7am the sun begins again. The outer circle takes its colour palette from the sun and the inner circle of the moon. Because even the moon cycle is mimicked, the interior will be friendly illuminated at night and from the outside a wonderful play of light is shown. Synchronised with the lunar cycle, the light in the circles will grow every month.
