Nuée @ Foscarini
NUÉE is a big, floating cloud of light suggesting “the choreographic movement of flocks of birds, sweeping across the sky in incredible abstract patterns,” explains Marc Sadler, the designer. The pendant is composed of overlapping a three-dimensional technical fabric, which the light crosses organic and randomly. Dark zones appear against a white base, like a cloud that darkens its colour in the more compact areas. NUÉE generates a contrast between spontaneity and coordination in a lamp whose expression cannot be grasped, but merely contemplated. NUÉE is a lamp of theatrical appearance which the light is emitted in an irregular, evocative way. The layed fabric permits deformations that become poetic: dark eareas appear against a soft white base, like a cloud that darkens its colour in the more dense areas. Foscarini has cleverly incorporated two separate light source to create the proper effect. One is released inside the lamp, further emphasising the game of light-dark contradiction; it creates a soft, gentle, welcoming, diffused light, throughout the body of the suspended lamp. The other direct the light below, but never produces disturbing glare. Nuée comes in two sizes: extra-large (150cm width) and medium (70cm width). NUÉE was presented during Salone de Mobili 2019, Milan. The concept of creating a lamp based on a cloud is for from new. Other clouds are the super successful Cloud by Belux, Cloud by Rotaliana, Cloud by Molo and Nuvola by Nemo.
