ORU @ FABBIAN

Inspired by Japanese origami, ORU is a pendant that is different from other metal suspension lights. Vim & Vigor initially designed ORU for a design competition in 2012, but it has been taken in production by Fabbian. The design team Vim & Vigor got the idea for ORU from the origami art. “In doing so, we wanted to create something truly unique, and not just style another piece of furniture or lighting.” the design team says. ”We have always had a true connection to the idea and mantra behind origami. There is something quite magical in taking an ordinary flat sheet of paper and forming it into something completely different yet beautiful.” ORU is Japanese for the word “fold”, reminding us of the origami. ORU has a big, metal shade. With this shade, Vim & Vigor tried to create a hand-made look, without losing it’s modern appearance. The metal plate is carefully bended around the particular hole in the lampshade and fixed in its final form. “The result is a lampshade that appears to be a typical symmetrical shape when viewed from one angle, and, entirely differently, a keyhole and a subtle organic form when viewed from another.” In this way, Vim & Vigor have created a new type of metal lights which are suitable for the lighting of any room. The bright inside colours give a high contrast with the black outside of the shade. ORU is available in three different sizes, of which one is manufactured completely out of luxurious copper.
