When Bertjan Pot received a new safety ladder for his studio, he covered it with carnival lights to somewhat play a prank on a client. 'It suddenly seemed like the perfect illogical combination to make: rawness and glitter,' Pot says. The ladder-lamp became a brilliant and attractive object that now illuminates an industrial theater-café in Schiedam, the Netherlands. The space was formerly a distillery which is now home to a cinema, theatre, centre for visual arts and dance studio.
Pot decided to enter his ladder into the Frame-Moooi design competition. This competition is looking for the best furniture and lamps that have been designed for a specific interior.
Much to Pot's surprise, the talented and internationally-celebrated Philippe Starck, judge of the Frame Moooi Award, appointed his Stairway to Heaven light as the winner. Fame : The Stairway to Heaven light project will be published in Frame Magazine
Fortune : Pot has received the grand prize of € 25,000.
The award ceremony was held Wednesday, 18 April at Magazzini Generali in Milan. Pot was presented his award by juror Philippe Starck and designer Marcel Wanders.
