Petits Bijoux @ Catellani & Smith
Petits Bijoux is the new eyecatcher by Italian lighting atelier Catellani & Smith. This handmade pendant was inspired by static movement; the effect of an action that seems to imitate the gesture of throwing a stone into a pool of water, creating concentric waves that propagate into space. The concept of a sphere, the circle as a metaphor for the infinite and perfection, has been favourite, recurring theme during Catellani & Smith’s thirty years of lamp production. Petit Bijoux could be regarded as a revisit of this theme. This new pendant lamp is remarkably simple in its design but extraordinary in its craftsmanship and level of perfection. Founder Enzo Catellani states: "The basic rule that I’ve set for everything I do and that I’ve instilled in my collaborators is to put your heart and soul into what you’re doing". The Catellani & Smith 56 Petits Bijoux pendant lamp consists of ten ring-shaped brass elements on various levels. Together they form a spherical lamp body. A total of 28 or 56 LEDs are integrated on these elements, each of which is mounted behind a lens. The 28 Petit Bijoux has 7 rings and a total of 28 LEDs. The light emitted is bundled through the lenses into the room. At the same time, the light creates numerous reflections on the lamp. The integrated LEDs are interchangeable. The 56 Petits Bijoux has a diameter of 120cm, the 28 Petit Bijoux has a diameter of 75cm. The lamp can be dimmed on site. The white ceiling canopy is 9 cm high and has a diameter of 32 cm. The rings are made of untreated brass, the little jewels on the ring are transparent covers with brass clips.
