XAL produceert armaturen en verlichting voor winkel, kantoor, hotel-en leefruimtes. Ongeveer 400 medewerkers werken op zestien locaties in zeven landen in ontwikkeling, productie en marketing. Het hoofdkwartier van het bedrijf is gevestigd in Graz, Oostenrijk. Hier werd XAL opgericht door Andreas en Claudia Hierzer in 1989. De belangrijkste dochterondernemingen zijn gevestigd in Munchen, Zurich, Londen en New York. Onderzoek en ontwikkeling zijn bij XAL net zo belangrijk als de eerste klas know-how in productie en logistiek. Deze competenties stelt XAL in staat om zeer flexibel te reageren op de markt. Bekende ontwerpen zijn de Vela wand-/plafondlampen en de Bedo buitenlampen.
