Premsela, Benno

Benno Premsela (†1997) was the son of a famous Jewish house doctor and sexuologist Bernard Premsela, who published about sexuality. Benno Premsela studied interior design before and after WOII at "Nieuwe Kunstschool". During the war he was forced to interrupt his study and go into hiding. His parents and sister were killed in Auschwitz. His brother survied the war.

In his minimalistic work beauty and functionality are in close harmony. Under his supervision spectacular shopwindows were created for upperclass department store 'Bijenkorf' in Amsterdam. Together with interior designer Jan Vonk he founded Bureau Premsela Vonk, working for a great many companies and private indivuals.
His iconic Lotek (Low - Technology) lamp (1982) is a wordwide success.
