Scarpa, Tobia

Having obtained his degree in architecture in 1969, Tobia Scarpa is immediately awarded the “Compasso d’Oro” for the armchair “Soriana”.
As a designer he is awarded among others the “IF Industrie Forum Design Hannover” in 1992. Several of his objects are exhibited in the most important museums of the world.

For the Benetton group he realizes the industrial complex in Castrette di Villorba, and important restorations among which the Palazzo Bomben and the Palazzo Caotorta. Other restorations are the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice and the Palazzo del Mercato Vecchio in Verona.

Tobia Scarpa teaches at the department of Design and Arts at the IUAV in Venice.

In 2004 the Italian Istitute for Culture has dedicated him a personal exhibition in Chicago and in 2005 in Los Angeles. The exhibition will be moved to Washington at the end of 2006.

For Flos he designed Biagio table lamp and Ariette ceiling lamp. Numerous joint designs include the Papillona halogen lamp (1977) and Pierrot desk lamp (1990).
