Yamac, Umut

Umut Yamac is a designer, architect and creator of kinetic works based in London. He graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL with a distinction in design. During his architectural career, Umut Yamac was drawn to the design of 1:1 mechanical details. He founded his studio in 2011 to combine this interest with his love of making. He is currently engaged in creating small-scale architectural constructions, combining traditional construction materials such as timber and metal, with more unusual and fragile materials such as paper, clay and seeds. The works vary in scale from domestic objects to designs for public spaces, from permanent pieces to temporary installations. Many of the themes explored in his work are derived from natural processes, whether these be movement, time or weathering. His work ranges from purely functional to the playful and imaginary. This results in unique pieces whereby emphasis is placed on the relationship with the user; and the desire to offer different levels of engagement.
